Installing Custom Metadata Panels and Get Info Panels on Adobe Bridge CC

Problem

In previous versions of Creative Suite such as CS6, Adobe stored the XMP Metadata Panels and XMP Get Info Panels in the following locations:

XMP Get Info Panel

  • Mac: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/panels
  • Windows: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/panels

XMP Metadata Panel

  • Mac: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/custom
  • Windows: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/XMP/Custom File Info Panels/custom

When placing XMP panels in these locations, the Get Info Panel will be accessible to all of your CS6 applications. Unfortunately, in order to have the Creative Cloud applications be self-sufficient, they moved the XMP panels to inside of the application. Therefore, you have to do a little trick in order to get it to work.

Solution

The following are instructions on how to install your CS6 Get Info Panels for Adobe Bridge CC:

Mac

  1. Quit Adobe Bridge CC.
  2. Go to Finder.
  3. Go to Go > Go to Folder...
  4. Type in /Applications/Adobe Bridge CC/Adobe Bridge CC/Contents/Application Data/Custom File Info Panels/4.0/
  5. Click the OK button.
  6. Place your custom Metadata Panel in the custom folder.
  7. Place your custom XMP Get Info panel in the panels folder.

Windows

  1. Quit Adobe Bridge CC.
  2. Navigate to the folder C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Bridge CC\Custom File Info Panels\4.0
  3. Place your Metadata Panel in the custom folder.
  4. Place you custom XMP Get Info panel in the panels folder.

It is important to note that unlike Adobe CS6 and previous versions, the panels have to be installed individually for each application.

Final note: If you are implementing a digital asset management platform, DPCI strongly recommends that you integrate the new DAM with custom XMP panels using Adobe Bridge CC. With the widespread adoption of Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe has changed the way that Adobe stores where its custom XMP panels are installed on the computer. Here is a quick fix for you to be able to use your XMP panels you created in Adobe Bridge CC and other applications.
