DPCI developed a multi-channel publishing process that allows Stillwell Partners to build and style the calendar section of the Advertising Week guide within Adobe InDesign by importing XML via services from the Web CMS.
Stillwell Partners is a global consultancy focusing on marketing, media and content development. Stillwell Partners are the founders and organizers of Advertising Week, the world’s largest gathering of advertising and media leaders. Since its creation in 2004, Advertising Week has drawn more than 1.4 million participants from around the world to New York City for a week long think-tank comprised of over 200 distinct programs that focus on the power of advertising, media and its neighboring industries. In 2013, the New York City flagship edition was joined by Advertising Week Europe in London.
Stillwell Partners produces a guide book both in print and online formats that covers the agenda and calendar for all of the industry events, seminars and workshops, for that city's Advertising Week's edition. The agenda content originates in the organization's Web CMS and production staff members go through a tedious process to extract the online content and format it in Adobe InDesign for the print guide. As the date for the conference approaches, changes to the agenda are made manually in both sources, a process which is time consuming and error prone. Stillwell Partners looked for ways to simplify this web-to-print and print-to-web workflow process and eliminate the rekeying and reformatting of information.
DPCI developed a process using custom InDesign menus, scripting, and templates to build and style the calendar grid and calendar listing section of the Advertising Week guide within InDesign by importing XML via services from the Web CMS. This creates a single source of content and enables their staff to create new calendars on the fly when information is updated.
The process developed by DPCI helps Stillwell Partners to rapidly publish content and eliminates the copy, paste, re-formatting process, and reduces chance of error for the print edition of the Advertising Week guide. Now, with the click of a few buttons, the calendar grid and listing are created within InDesign from the CMS source content. By connecting InDesign and the CMS, Stillwell Partners has a simplified multi-channel publishing process by which content is prepared for delivery in multiple formats and editions.
