DPCI Releases Enhanced EMBridge Module for Drupal

EMBridge provides advanced image management capabilities to Drupal by connecting to EnterMedia, an open source digital asset management system

New York, NY - September 29, 2014 - DPCI, an interactive technology agency that helps organizations create, publish, enrich and deliver content to Web, print, mobile, and tablet devices, today announced the updated release of EMBridge, a Drupal contributed module created and maintained by DPCI, that extends the image management functionality of Drupal by connecting it to EnterMedia, an open-source digital asset management system distributed under the GNU General Public License.

With EMBridge, DPCI offers an elegant approach to managing digital assets for an organization’s Website by connecting best-of-breed open source technologies. By connecting Drupal with EnterMedia, users can upload and search for assets right from Drupal’s content creation interface. Depending on an organization’s needs, EnterMedia can manage these assets on premise or in the cloud. In addition, users can enrich these assets by adding or editing metadata in Drupal which is then preserved with the assets in EnterMedia. Drupal users can search across standard or custom metadata properties as well as extended asset metadata, such as EXIF, XMP or IPTC, captured by EnterMedia. Further, when searching for digital assets from the Drupal interface, users can browse through the results as thumbnails with metadata or in a tabular list view.

With the newest version of EMBridge, not only can users associate images with content types in Drupal but now users place images inline with either Wysiwyg or CKEditor modules. All of this functionality is accessed directly from within Drupal’s content creation interface without having to jump out to the desktop or another application interface.

“For several years now, the Drupal community has grappled with how to best deal with media assets in Drupal,” said Joseph Bachana, President and Founder of DPCI. “The solution in our eyes has been right in front of us all along. Instead of making Drupal into a digital asset management system, use Drupal to do what it does well and then connect it with an open source DAM to handle the rich media side.”

The newest release includes many other advanced features, including support for the latest versions of Drupal 7 and EnterMedia 8. DPCI pledges to have EMBridge for Drupal 8-ready at the same time as the Drupal 8 release.
